Wheel Throwing

Teacher: Nathen Spevack

In this 3 hour intermediate/advanced session, students will build on foundational wheel skills by learning how to throw with intention, create closed forms, and throw in sections.

This class requires a minimum of 1-2 years of experience on the wheel and the ability to wedge, center, and work with 2-3 lbs of clay. Students also need to be comfortable trimming and glazing their work. This session will NOT include a glaze class, but will come with 3 hours of Open Studio time to glaze.

Techniques and skills will vary depending on the class but may include :

  • Manipulating and altering wheel-thrown forms

  • Advanced options for surface decoration/carving

  • Throwing in Sections

  • Lidded Jars

This class is 6 sessions on the wheel.

Once you’ve completed this course, you can use the potters wheels during

Open Studio hours.
